“JULIO BOCCA: A TRIBUTE TO A DANCE LEGEND”

On Friday, April 14, 2017 YAGP will present a special tribute to a legendary Argentinian ballet dancer, Julio Bocca. This Gala performance will be presented as part of YAGP’s “Legends in Dance” series in honor of Mr. Bocca’s 50thBirthday.
Mr. Bocca’s most celebrated partners and friends will gather in New York City from all over the world. Some will present performances in honor of the Latin-American legend, who “broke the mold” by becoming the first ballet dancer from Argentina to gain worldwide recognition, going on to perform all over the globe and influence several generations of dancers.
Mr. Bocca will join the YAGP Finals week as a competition judge and guest of honor. Among the invited guests are Alessandra Ferri, Herman Cornejo, Cesar Corrales, Luciana Paris, Marcelo Gomes, Alina Cojocaru, Manuel Legris, Susan Jaffe, Julie Kent, Cynthia Harvey, and others.

The 2012 BALLERINA ASSOLUTA: Gala Tribute Honoring the Legendary NATALIA MAKAROVA celebrated Ms. Makarova’s contribution to the art of ballet by presenting some of her most memorable roles performed by today’s leading dancers. The legendary ballerina herself shared fascinating insights into the world of ballet throughout the evening.

Vladimir Vasiliev is a living legend that has defined 20th Century ballet. He is the only dancer to be given the title of “World’s Best Dancer” by the Paris Dance Academy, hailed by critics worldwide as “God of the dance … a miracle in art, perfection.” Having dazzled the world for over half a century with his performances at Bolshoi Ballet and virtually every major company around the world, this dance icon will return to New York for a tour-de-force performance after a 20-year absence.
On March 27, 2010 Youth America Grand Prix paid tribute to this giant in the ballet world by presenting a spectacular Gala performance featuring the stars of Bolshoi Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet, The Royal Ballet, New York City Ballet and American Ballet Theatre, who performed in honor of the legendary dancer and Artistic Director of the Bolshoi Ballet on his 70th birthday.

This extraordinary evening paid tribute to Mr. Pestov’s legacy by gathering some of his most acclaimed students in one spectacular Gala performance. The audience was treated to never-before-seen archival footage and had witness an emotional coming together of several generations of dancers, choreographers and teachers celebrating the 80th birthday of the great architect behind their success. The evening was hosted by Alexei Ratmansky.
